Welcome to The Newcroft Afterschool and Holiday Club!
Since our inception in 1998, we have provided consistently high-quality wraparound childcare to generations of Cambridge children. We offer a well-resourced, safe and secure play environment in the extensive grounds of Newnham Croft Primary School and accept children from Reception to Year 6.
The children have opportunity to play both indoors and outside, and our ethos is one where play is mainly freely chosen and initiated by the children themselves, with some adult led activities such as arts and crafts, cooking and occasional group games in the mix as well.
Our staff team is led by experienced managers with relevant childcare qualifications, and all staff are trained in Basic Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures. Food handlers have food hygiene training and there is always at least one Paediatric First Aider onsite, as well as a Designated Safeguarding Lead. Our child:staff ratios are between 1:8 and 1:10. Regular reflective practice informs planning decisions, and we strive for good, open and constructive communication between ourselves and the families who use our services.
Afterschool Club
Afterschool childcare is provided every school day between 3:15pm and 6pm. We have two groups: Younger children in Reception and Year 1 make up one group based in our ‘community room’ setting whilst older children Year 2 – Year 6 are based down the passageway in the school hall. Both groups play together outside in the school playground and can move freely between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Our afterschool club is the perfect place for children to unwind after the busy school day, and there are always arts and crafts activities that they can choose to do if they wish, or they can run around and play on the Go-Karts and other ride on toys outside. They can make new friends, learn new skills or just chat, read, relax or play board games. Our playworkers encourage and support the children to have lots of fun whilst keeping themselves and others safe.
Holiday Club
Our Holiday Club operates from the Community room of Newnham Croft School. We are open from 8:45am until 5:45pm during school holidays for most of the year (please see bookings page for dates and details). All age groups, from Reception to Year 6, play together and we welcome children from the wider Cambridge community.
The club is well resourced and there are many opportunities for creative free play both indoors and outside. Your child will be able to choose to take part in a variety of activities on offer, including daily cookery and arts and crafts, however no activities are compulsory. Our focus is to encourage child-led play in a safe and comfortable setting with time to relax and enjoy being on holiday!
